China Weighs In
China's rapidly growing economy is leading to an insatiable appetite for energy. The nation is expected to exceed the U.S. and become the world leader in carbon emissions by 2030. Much of China's energy comes from the burning of coal - and China is already constructing the equivalent of one large coal-fueled power station per week.
It was interesting, then, to note that 12 China government departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Meteorological Administration and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have issued the nation's first national assessment of global climate change. The assessment predicts temperatures to rise 1.3-2.1 degrees C by 2020. Although the report also predicts rainfall will increase, water shortages are expected to increase due to faster evaporation caused by higher temperatures.

I haven't seen such widespread, unscientific hysteria as we see now over global warming since Welles broadcst WAR OF THE WORLDS.
Did Al Gore ever wield a snowshovel?
I bet not.
If this is global warming, let's have a little more of it so we can have palm trees in Massachusetts. .

I agree Spikethedog!
I'm still waiting for California to drop off into the ocean as well!
- Just love all those "Scientific realities".
I laugh at bad science for political gain

Interestingly, China also makes ardent arguments why it should not be subject to the Kyoto Accord to reduce emissions. Effectively, China doesn't want to impede it's industrial growth by imposing emissions caps.
Strangely, the US is criticized for not ratifying the Kyoto Accord. Why does the US hold this position? China is not subject to the Kyoto Accord and therefore doesn't have to comply with the emissions controls.
China is quickly becoming a world superpower economically. Not requiring China to "play by the same environmental rules" as other countries is insane. Especially considering that China will relatively quickly overtake the US as the largest carbon emitter.
However, China is used to creating its own rules. Consider that China locks its currency (Yuan) at a specific exchange rate to guarantee a significant trade imbalance with the US. There is increasing worldwide pressure for China to allow the Yuan to fluctuate with worldwide markets. Combine an imbalanced monetary policy with environmental freedom and China doesn't care what the world thinks.

Ms Hannon
I have always believed in the probable truth
of the global warming issue.Esp. inlight of constant findings of suport for these theories.
i noticed in one of your replies, you typed out
the thought that the ice shelve (i forget which one)may be melting due to a cycle. Is there a particular reason for that considering the "nature of the conversation". ALso I watched a program on MPT haveing to do with global dimming. What do you know of or believe of this aspect of the problem. In my lamens view if both are true then ew are "SOL".If both are true then to fix we will from my view sacrifice the better of our generation for the next.which I fear we will not.Isay this because the sacrifice was hard enough will only global warming. Now throw in global dimming and if its true that we are correcting the effects of dimming and not the gas warming issue which will make the process even faster I fear the best we can hope for is all the science is wrong. Not a winning stratigy but what else is there? im sorry for rattleing on and for misspelled words bad punctuation.
THANKS
michael

Inserted is a URL to a Nasa website:

Global warming on Mars: Is the Sun warmer or is it all those martian SUV's? Two planets, same problem. Law of parsimony ( Occam's Razor) says the Sun is just putting out more heat.
Can we do something about that? Is a space umbrella in the earth's future? Could be!

So if we regulate ourselves back to the stone age China will carry on the global warming toxic torch. Looks like palm trees in Tennessee to me.
