Toyota - Greening Up

I received a press release in my inbox from The National Arbor Day Foundation - which so far hasn't appeared on their web site. It's touting Toyota's partnership with the National Arbor Day Foundation to promote Toyota's "Highway to the Future: Mobile Hybrid Experience" national tour.

According to the press release, Toyota will work with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 50,000 trees in honor of those visiting the experience, to help offset the "carbon footprint" of the trucks used to transport the tour.

The trees will be planted in national forests damaged by wildfire, insects, disease, and other natural causes. They will provide wildlife habitat, prevent soil erosion, clean the air, and make a positive impact for years to come.

Toyota is also partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree for each 8-series lift truck delivered in 2007.

Constantin Tudoran:

Am I the only one to remember that the same people that are today warning us of the global heating Armageddon are the ones that predicted the coming of a New Ice Age in the 70's and the beginning of the 80's?!
As far as I have read, we're not even fully understanding how the Earth's atmosphere as a whole, works, let alone predict how it's going to evolve.
Am I the only one to find out that the solar activity cycle that used to be 11 years is now lowered to around 4 to 5 years? And that during the past decade the Sun has gone into an unprecedented maximum of activity? Also, is it true that temperature increases similar to those on Earth have been noticed to happen on other planets, such as Mars or Moon? Do martians emit greenhouse gases too?
There is not even general consensus upon matters strictly relating to atmosphere modeling or Earth's energy balance.
So until those things are cleared...

Denis L'Heureus:

I am not a scientist by any means. I only try to keep currents by reading all I can put my hands on in reference to global warming, whether this material is from the skeptics or from those promoting it as facts.

That being said, it is my understanding that the ultimate outcome of global warming is in fact another ice age. So when you say that the same people predicting another ice age back in the 70s are not saying "Global Warming"....I guess it does make sense since both go hand in hand.

Cheers
