Arctic Delegation
A delegation of Inuit people from the U.S., Canada, Russia and Greenland are heading to Washington, D.C. to testify that global warming is destroying their way of life. It's long been believed that global warming will have the largest impact on Arctic areas, and many areas have already seen shortened winter seasons.
The delegation will testify before the InterAmerican Commission on Human Rights that the U.S.'s position on global warming is undermining their human rights.
"The impacts of climate change, caused by acts and omissions by the US, violate the Inuit's fundamental human rights protected by the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man and other international instruments," the Inuit argued in a letter to the ICHR. "Because Inuit culture is inseparable from the condition of their physical surroundings, the widespread environmental upheaval resulting from climate change violates the Inuit's right to practice and enjoy the benefits of their culture."

So, I guess according to the Inuit, warming of the artic really isn't caused by all the people of the World, or anything natural, just the actions of the USA.
This statement shows exactly the real issue for those who believe in human-induced global warming. It has nothing to do with nature, or science, or anything of the sort, it is simply about who has the deep pockets and who can be fleeced. America is the ONLY country in the world with a conscience, that has any discretionary wealth. I am certain there are many countries that have one, or the other, but not both.

Interesting. So now climate change has the ability to violate rights? I don't think climate change hates the Inuits enough to single them out personally.
Seriously, while I disagree with current GW theory, I believe we should be good stewards of our environment. However, changing climate is something that will happen naturally (over years, decades or centuries). People groups must recognize that and be prepared to adapt. Just ask Neanderthals in Europe, early Americans during the last Ice Age or the Vikings in formerly GREENland.
This argument of the climate violating my rights...can I claim that the next time a hurricane messes up my vacation or destroys my home? Same with a Blizzard or record snows in NY.

WOW. Where does one begin to respond to an attempt by a group of activists to link climate change to human rights violations. Is a stable climate now an entitlement. I am calling my lawyer today to file suit against the government for not protecting me against the Valentines Day snow storm which disrupted my way of life. In fact, today is February 23 and I still cannot open my side door due to heavy snowfall. All that snow must be caused by global warming and the U.S. is responsible. I want money.
Let's hope that the ICHR has some sane members and the suit is rejected as frivolous and utterly ridiculous. It's really getting silly out there when you read articles like this.
Now, for some good news. We are doing better at controlling greenhouse gas emissions than the EU according to the UN. Don't believe me - okay, here is the link.

I thought we were better than the EU all along. We should impose an environmental tax on French wine - those irresponsible Europeans simply aren't doing their part even if they did sign the Kyoto Protocol.

I guess as Americans this is what we are going to have to get used to. When you live in the greatest country in the world everyone wants a piece of you, everyone is in your back pocket looking for a handout. That's what this is about, no one really cares about the environment, it's all about how much money can we steal from the US and it's citizens.

Maybe the Inuit should just move to Iceland...

MG,
If you wish so, would you be so kind as to post the whole link you've said is worth-reading?
Here are just a few examples:
"The crew concluded that it is not safe to sail in D?rdur, except for very experienced sailors, but said the ice is melting quickly due to high ocean temperatures and warm air temperatures."
It's not that cold out there, actually, is it?
"This is just to remind us where we live"
Of course there should be ice up there. What are you looking for? sandy and sunny beaches?
"When pack ice was more common, polar bears were known to migrate to Iceland from Greenland on drifting ice floes. The last time a polar bear was spotted and shot in Iceland was in Haganesv north Iceland, in February 1988."
I bet it was colder those days.

One more thing: I don't have anything against the US. I have really good friends living there. I may not like the Bush's administration, but we are not discusing that.
We have to blame China and India on CO2 emissions as well.

The most likely reason the Inuit have complained specifically about the U.S. lack of action on Global Warming is because they believe the US violates the intent of the instrument, American Declaration of the Rights..., which is designed to protect their rights, which they believe have been violated. They also feel, I believe, that they can receive some redress throught the InterAmerican Commision on Human RIghts which has US representation.
Although we all know that other industrialized nations and emerging markets, such as China and India, are complicit as well, the Inuit have no influence at all on those countries policies. Besides, the United States, being the "greatest nation in the world", should lead, instead of follow or obstruct, fair policy to deal with this issue.

Why do I now get the vision of millions of Katrina lawsuits? I will not be suprised when we see a report stating GW did that too.

No, it's because they know they can get the most money out of the US, period. It has nothing to do with anything else, everyone is cashing in on us because of this hysteria. Why don't they sue the sun, it needs to reduce the amount of solar flares it gives off, that would help control global warming.

Okay, forgive me if I'm wrong. I thought Greenland was supposed to be icy and Iceland was supposed to be not so icy. When the vikings landed on Greenland they found that it was all icy so they called it Greenland to lure their enemies there and instead they went to Iceland because it was warmer. They reversed the names to throw people off and they could stay on Iceland by themselves since people that it was miserably cold there.
