Al Gore's 7-Point Pledge

In this latest video, Katie Fehlinger discusses recycling and how global warming may be making your eyes water a little more than usual. In the feature topic, Katie outlines the 7-point pledge from Al Gore, which is a personal committment to combat global warming by those who sign up.

What is your opinion of the 7-point pledge?

If you are interested in taking the pledge, here is a link to The Alliance for Climate Protection

Darren:

I think Gore is an idiot. The only point I'll support is planting trees and saving the forest. CO2 is not cause of global warming, the planet has been warming since the end of the mini ice age and will eventually cool back down. The entire solar system is warming and our cars are not doing that. Its a cycle its a cycle its a cycle. Don't get me wrong, I am all for conservation and forest protection but CO2 is not the problem. Gore brain washed millions into his belief without showing them the evidence on both sides, he is pulling the biggest scam on planet earth. Our small fraction of CO2 emission is nothing compared to what volcanoes, dieing vegetation, animals, and THE HUGE OCEANS are emitting. Don't let Gore brain wash anymore of you, if he ever becomes president I am moving to New Zealand.

Paul:

For those of you who have neither the patience or the inclination to search through that disaster of a webpage here is the 7-point pledge:

To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

How long is a generation? 25 years? 50 years? Judging by how long it took me to bush hog the weeds in my backyard over the weekend; I know my backyard is "healthy".

To take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral;"

I didn't realize that CO2 was a pollutant. I was under the impression that CO2 was necessary for oxygen generation by plants; hence the overabundance of weeds in the aforementioned backyard.

To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

Sounds like he wants nuclear.

To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

I thought that was going to be accomplished through government mandates.

To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

More government intervention! Whoopee!!! Maybe they should start by looking for more dilithium crystals.

To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

Grasses most likely have the same effect as CO2 concentrations decreased dramatically during the Miocene (35 million years ago) when grasses became abundant.

To buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

Sorry, I can't and will not do this.

Nah. I don't think I'll take the 7-point pledge.

Reply, The 7 point pledge is also clearly laid out in Katie's video. Brett.

Rose:

Hmm, it should be 8 points.

8. Take as much taxpayer money as you can in the name of "saving the earth"

Oiznop:

Ok, now that I have calmed down from my excessive laughter at this joke of a story, and after finding out that the low temperature for PGH, PA is going down to 57F tonight (record low for this date 7/23 is 54F) further sinking me in my depression over this joke of a summer, I am now willing to put forth Oiznop's 7 point pledge.

Point 1 -- To never vote for ANY politician who advocates that Global Warming is the biggest threat to the planet.

Point 2 -- To always rev up the lawn mower when an Ozone Action Day is declared (which obviously will never happen where I am at).

Point 3 -- To eat as much oatmeal and beef as possible, thus emitting as much CO2 into the atmosphere as possible.

Point 4 -- To shop around for an Escalade, Navigator, or Hummer as soon as I can raise enough $$$$ to do so.

Point 5 -- To continue to use the same types of light bulbs that I have been using low these many years, because those swirly ones contain dangerous Mercury.

Point 6 -- To make sure I use excessive amounts of toilet paper upon a necessary trip to the bathroom, especially since I desire to keep my undergarments clean.

and Point 7 -- To continue to refute, rebutt, and harange the Al Gore boot lickers and brain washed minions who continue to pledge their alligence to the Church of the Non-Existant Boogie Man, both on this blog and elsewhere.

I hearby submit the Oiznop 7 Point Pledge under the oath, and proclaim to uphold each segment with an open mind and a nasty attitude!

Love and Kisses Ozone Man,

The Denier!

Rick Ressler:

Perhaps Gore would have more success in getting people to sign up if he would practice what he preaches, which he clearly does not.

I'll take a pass on this snake oil remedy for planet earth.

DarrenC:

Hmmm...Another Darren has appeared...nice to have you aboard and thank goodness you spell it correctly. LOL

Well, first off, my god can the Goreacle suck the life out of anything or what? How did he ever get elected? To anything.

Second, did I understand it right that a 30 mile car trip would require purchasing a carbon credit of $12? I always wondered how much these credits would cost but holy cow that's a bunch. Considering a modest mileage for a car is 20 mpg, that means that a gallon of gas would equivalently cost $11.00. Guess BT would get the gas where he wants it.

Third, the first item is to DEMAND that your government sign on to a restrictive CO2 reduction plan. Didn't this first come up during his stint as the second in command?

Fourth, no new generator plants being coal fired. Great idea, not. Talk about hitting the appalachian states hard.

Fifth, plant a new tree. What about an old tree? And, I think I need to be getting my trees from Central PA. $3 to $20 for a balled and burlapped tree. Those are great prices.

I know that I always take a subject more seriously when there is a little kid screaming for me to do something NOW!!! Makes the point just that much more important. The giggly concert goers also make a big difference too. hehehehe. Have the numbers come out about how much the environment was saved by the concert happening? Or is that a trade secret?

Andrew:

Yeah; Go Green!

Most of this isn't as hard as some make it out to be and there are lots of other things one can do:

1. Pretty easy to skip hamburgers or at least limit eating beef to once a week.

2. Move closer to work/school so that it's easy to either walk or bike.

3. Purchase old farm land (typically $200/acre) and plant pine trees (500/ $35).

jim:

I think that the pledge is as phoney as Al Gore and his Carbon Trading Company. The debate isn't over, the scientific discussion is just beginning. Those that believe and follow Al Gore blindly have not done their homework and looked at the relevance of opposing ideas. The models used today, can't predict if it will rain tomorrow. This is just one liberal grab, to exert further control over our lifes through increased taxes of dubious value. Let's get the science right. 95% of C02 comes from water vapor, something that is never mentioned in An Inconvenient Truth. http://CO2science.org . Of that less than .05% is carbon dioxide. Unfortunately they picked the wrong gas to attack. How are you going to tax our oceans, lakes, rivers, streams and clouds. Wake up America, the globe is warming, it alway has and always will. J.C. http://globalwarminghysteria.blogspot.com

Mary :

Paul, I love you man.

Brett: But Paul's 7 point pledge layout is so much more entertaining and truthful.

Randall:

I also agree that Al Gore is doing nothing more than using our tax money for his own pocket. Keeping the earth green is not going to stop anytime soon. Stopping CO2 emissions is not going to stop the so called global warming scheme, uh, excuse me, Gore scam. Al could help global warming more by keeping his mouth shut from the public. He is full of hot air Just thought of a good one. In November, I am going to file for a grant from tax dollars about global cooling!

Mark:

Thanks for providing the link, Brett -- I signed the pledge.

Paul:

Andrew,

Where are old farms going for $200/acre? Sign me up!!! Here in rural Georgia (well, almost rural Georgia), an acre of land is going for $25,000/acre. Last time I checked, an acre was going for $3,000 per acre in South Park, Colorado (not the town, the montane valley).

NGW Steve:

Al Gore is not only a spoiled little crybaby, he is an idiot.

1. As it was previously posted, we could get rid of ALL of our manufacturing and send it to a "non-developed" country that will NEVER sign a treaty that will do nothing but limit their ability to grow.

2. There is no crisis. NO PROOF CO2 is CAUSING GW has EVER been found. None, Zero, Zip.

3. Nope. See #2.

4. Not so bad, do not like the word "dramatic" there, but I agree that we can encourage the market to produce more efficient devices by buying ones that are better than yesterday's.

5. Laws and policies are like hands in my wallet, Keep Out Jerk-Wads!

6. Not so bad of an idea. Currently here in the US we plant more trees than we cut down already.

7. How about stop buying from businesses that are changing for no other reason than to bow to the AGW prophet Al Gore.

Penn & Teller once had a petition to "Stop Women's Suffrage" :) Nearly all the women who passed by signed it. Amazing what people will sign when they have no clue what they are signing.

Regards,

Steve

mc:

Andrew,

I am going to ignore your other comments as they are not worthy of rebuttal, but where is this farm ground you are buying for $200/acre? Please let me know so I can go snatch it all up. You would be hard pressed to find low lying swamp ground for $200/acre let alone anything that you would be able to plant your trees on. Or is this just another throwing out of random numbers to make your stance seem reasonable, because it is not. Just as a point of reference, our area in Northeast Indiana is far from ideal farm ground. Farmable land with no tiling sells for around $1300/acre in larger pieces(more than 80 acres). Keep in mind this is heavy clay soil with no tiling which adds to the price. Good farm ground will cost you more than $2K/acre. There are not too many farmers that will take land that valuable and fill it with trees.

Oiznop:

Thanks for providing the link, Brett -- I signed the pledge.

REPLY: Yeah, I did too, Brett, thanks for the link. I forget though, did I sign it "Donald Duck", "Humpty Dumpty", or "Karl Marx.".....;-D...

Gunnar:

1) To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

I demand that every country avoid treaties that violate human rights, especially those that are based on completely faulty AGW ideas.

2) To take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral;"

We have a human crisis of critical thinking. C02 is not pollution. False ideas are mental pollution. Help a plant, Maximize your C02 footprint!

3) To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

Nuclear power is superior, but some markets are too small. A good coal plant is just what is needed.

4) To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

No "dramatic" increase is likely, since we've already been working on that for a century. The market favors higher efficiency anyway, and experts are working on satisfying the market, so no need to worry yourself. Concentrate on increasing your critical thinking skills.

5) To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

Oil and Coal are abiotic. The biotic theory says that oil cannot be produced without biological processes. This theory has been directly falsified in the lab by duplicating the conditions in the earth's crust, which causes oil to be produced. As such, oil is renewable in the sense that they mean, which is that it is nearly endless. It is harmless to burn, since C02 is not a pollutant, and barely affects the carbon cycle.

6) To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

The reality is that new growth creates more oxygen and absorbs more C02. Therefore, if this really were a problem, we should clear cut old growth forests on a regular basis.

7) To buy from businesses and support leaders who share (Al Gore's) commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

That would mean that they are either irrational, gullible, or evil. No one should do business with such people.

Oiznop:

And the BS continues, on the state and local level as well as the Federal. Governor Grendell, Sentator's Bobby Junior, and Snarlen Arlen, and this writer at the Post Gazette will be receiving nice little letters from this constituant!

http://www.postgazette.com/pg/07205/803994-100.stm

We haven't had a day over 80 degrees in the last two weeks around here, and they are spewing the propaganda! Time to get angry, people! Write your representatives and senators at all government levels and experess yourself over this! It's government run-a-muck, and it has to stop.

Mark:

Kudos to Rendell. It's exciting to see states take the initiative on this, since the Feds -- namely, our President -- are more focused on solving the real "problems" like gay marriage.

Thor:

Take a one point pledge instead of seven which is what I've done. Voluntary human extinction!

JP:

How about I pledge to cut my internet time by 80% immediately. Very few people realize how much power server farms consume.

Paul:

Thor,

You first.

Patrick Henry:

Lots of good reasons to cut back on pollution, reduce waste of resources, and dependence on Middle eastern and Venezuelan oil. Bad science and Al Gore's manbearpig politics aren't among of them.

A good place to start would be to replace traffic lights with roundabouts. That would save 30-50% of commuting time and gas usage for tens of millions of Americans. Most commuters spend their morning and evening driving from one red light to the next, with less than 50% efficiency of the road capacity. I love riding my bike every morning past all the road rage commuters stuck through four cycles of the light trying to get past a nearly empty intersection - just so they can do the same thing at the next light.

Paul:

I've decided not to ride my bike the 23 miles to work everyday. If the Cobb County traffic engineers would get their act together and time the lights for 45 mph, life would be better. Oh, yeah, I'm not going to live closer to work, either. If anything I'm going to move further away. Thanks for letting me vent.

J:

To Andrew,

I simply want to know where you can buy a farm for $200 an acre and be close to ANY business or school.

Anonymous:

Darren gives Al Gore too much credit. Now he has the power to brainwash?

John D.:

Gore does not need to brainwash anyone. He is merely dipping into the pool of millions of folks out there that are susceptible to cult forming and will follow anything as long as there is a scenario of pleasure or doom presented and then a solution that will fix your problem.

He is merely doing what government spin doctors and marketing experts have been doing for years with their captive audiences and loyal taxpayers.

How many followed Bush blindly into Iraq?
How many followed Jim Jones to their deaths?
How many followed the Reverend Moon's marriage fiasco?
How many kids need to dress and act like Madonna or Britanny?
How many folks now have to have a motorcycle made by Orange County Choppers?
How many blindly followed Hitler?
How many millions were invested in the Bre-X scam?
How many kids and adults are totally hooked on video games?
How many "Am-bots" are still losing friends and money trying to "live the dream" by selling Amway products?

The list goes on. It's all about marketing strategies and spin doctoring and there will always be a large "gene pool" of folks who have to latch on to something that promises to make them either look good, make them popular or give their lives a purpose.

Al Gore is a pro at pulling fish out of that pool with his array of spinners. How easy it is to have folks sign a pledge when they have nothing else to follow.
