Check out this List!

One of my co-workers here at AccuWeather.com sent me this link. It is titled, "A complete list of things caused by global warming" and wow is this some list! The site provides all these links to stories that have related certain things to global warming. Some of the links are broken, but you get the idea.

Some examples.......invasion of cats, lawyer's income increased, gingerbread houses collapse, suicide and food poisoning.

Feel free to offer some of your favorites in the comment section.

The rise and fall of Britney Spears is because of global warming! Heck, I failed my math test because of global warming, can I re-take it? My dad got a hang nail because of global warming too! And did you know that OJ got away with murder because of global warming?

Global warming is a threat to everyone's health, speech, money, looks, fame, grades, work, and ofcourse chicken pox. (I am kidding by the way)

Patrick Henry:

Two weeks ago the UN Secretary General described the "devastation" he saw in Antarctica. He said that the West Antarctica Ice Sheet was already "floating" and would flood coastal cities when it melts.

Dr. Hansen has predicted "up to 25 meters of sea level rise this century."

Barbara Boxer also described what she saw in Greenland as "devastation." She saw a glacier which is moving "every single day."

I don't think anything on this list is more ridiculous than the wild, irrational nonsense being spewed by the key players in the AGW march of the lemmings.

When people stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing -- they believe in anything"
GK Chesterton

Robert Kneale:

I know there is much discussion on the matter of global warming. There are those on the side of pro global warming and those on the side of anti-global warming. I happen to be one of those who does not believe all this stuff about global warming. Further there are those much more knowledgeable on the matter than I, who also do not subscribe to the idea of global warming. One is Dr. George Taylor,
of Oregon State University who is also Oregon's state climatologists.

Mark:

Looks like the Paranoid Right have one less thing to scare the world about:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/03/iran.nuclear/index.html

Hmmm...so I guess diplomacy successfully disarmed Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Go figure.

Oh well, I'm sure the neocons will find another bogeyman to scare us with in order to justify increasing the amount of my tax dollars that go into defense spending.

JP:

It makes one wonder how anyone let alone anything survived the Medieval Warm Period.

Emiliano:

Brett, many of the links listed in the warmlist are not working... unfortunately, because they are of great interest. Would you be so kind as to check them?

Reply: I noted that in the original post, It's up to the person in charge of that website to check them. Brett

Rick Ressler:

Wow, Brett, that's quite a list! One thing I noticed in scanning through it - most stories are bad news. It seems that no matter what global warming is responsible for it is nearly always something bad. I think that fact alone is responsible for the growing number of skeptics. It just doesn't make any sense that warming is always bad for the planet - many people see the benefits of global warming such as longer growing seasons, reduced death rates due to milder winters, etc. But, the promoters of the AGW theory only see doom and gloom and catastrophe. Skeptics, like myself, see a hidden agenda when the AGW "science is settled" crowd try to stifle debate and cram government mandated CO2 controls down our throats. The fact that the solutions proposed by the AGW zealots always have a common theme - central government control much like the central planning imposed by communist governments.

Global Warming - scapegoat to the world!

The list seems geared towards quantity, not quality. First, many of the things on the list have to do with phenomena we've seen before (tsunamis, for example) that are ASSISTED, but not necessarily CAUSED by the warming of the earth. Secondly, I can't completely trust some of the links. Human extinction within 100 years? Hmm.

Chris:

Don't forget divorces: http://sify.com/news/fullstory.php?id=14570380
These misguided gullible fools really need to get a life and stop trying to control everybody because this is what it's really about, control via one-world government.

Chance Metz:

More reasons not to belive a thing about global warming.

Patrick Henry:

I guess diplomacy successfully disarmed Iraq, Iran and North Korea

Mark,

Diplomacy has no chance without the military option. Note that the report says that Iran stopped their nuclear weapons development after two years of Bush (2003.) Which also means that they continued it through eight years of Clinton. North Korea also disarmed under Bush. Saddam is gone and Iraq now has a democracy.

Iran knows that Bush is serious and will take action if necessary, unlike his predecessor who allowed Al Qaida to develop into a spectacularly dangerous organization. Talk is cheap, and that is all that liberals know how to do.

Clinton negotiated a peace settlement in Palestine for eight years, and left office with Arafat starting the Intifada and suicide bombers striking Israel on a daily basis. He got lots of good photo ops though, and that is what was really important. As long as people are "talking" liberals are happy.

This list is a scream! Reminds me of the big city that got hot calls about how adding fluorine to the water (the first time) made their ice cubes blue, killed their goldfish, and killed their lawns, hurt their stomachs, etc. ... until it was revealed that the equipment broke down and it HADN'T BEEN ADDED YET!

Plus, nobody seems to pay much attention to the astronomers who have very different ideas about warming and cooling trends and who's responsible.

Travis:

I thought it was hilarious. I'm rooting for the "better beer" one, personally.

Gary:

I have been watching this site grow for quite some time. It really does show just how rediculus this whole issue has gotten.
Now if you want a solution that make sense and covers all the bases and is safe and practical and ......

Here is a suggestion that No AGW fearing cultist will agree with. (Which make it all the more sensable)

Let policy follow science: Tie a carbon tax to actual warming

http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/1203/p09s02-coop.html

Of course, since curing climate change never was the goal, it will be ignored.

Interesting viewpoint:

Quantifying the influence of anthropogenic surface processes and
inhomogeneities on gridded global climate data

http://icecap.us/images/uploads/MM.JGR07-background.pdf

Scientists readily acknowledged that temperature measurements are contaminated for the purpose of
measuring climate change. Warnings on the subject go back at least to the 1950s. But they argue that
there are adjustments to fix the problem. To deal with a false warming generated by urbanization, they
have the Urbanization Adjustment. To deal with biases due to changing the time of day when
temperatures are observed, they have the Time of Observation Bias Adjustment. To deal with the loss
of sampling coverage they have the Coverage Adjustment. And so forth.

earth_thinker:

mark,

the paranoid right? i hate to disappoint you, but not everyone on the right is against the current ideas of AGW and not everyone on the left is for it. so many pro-AGWers argue that the only reason people dismiss the AGW hysteria is because of politics, but your comment makes me think the only reason you believe in it is due to politics. the issue of whether the "change" we are seeing is anthropogenic or natural is at its core apolitical.

our response to it, on the other hand, is political. should we trust in the capitalist(right) system to "correct" AGW or dive into global socialism(left)?

Gary:

Add this to the list:
Increasing divorces contribute to global warming

Monday, 03 December , 2007, 14:52

Sydney: Increasing number of divorces are contributing to global warming, says a new study that suggests people should save their marriages to save the environment.

After divorce a woman moves out and forms a new household. The study by researchers at the Michigan State University found that this leads to less efficient use of natural resources, more demand for land for housing, and higher expenditure on utilities, reported the online edition of News Australia.

Researchers surveyed 3,283 homes in the US between 2001 and 2005.

They found that households where couples divorced registered a 61 per cent increase in the number of rooms per person, compared with a six per cent increase in households where couples remained married.

Due to higher consumption per person, an individual in a divorced household might also generate more waste. These factors contribute to global environmental changes such as climate change and biodiversity loss, the study said.

Marie:

A few weeks ago, the UN Secretary General attributed the problems in the Sudan to global warming.

But now we know that the real culprit is a teddy bear.

Patrick Henry:

NOAA says that SSTs are about 1.5 degrees below normal.
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/90day/tools/briefing/sstaa.gif

Good news for people freezing in the upper midwest and northeast. NOAA's climate models predicted two weeks ago that you are actually warm and therefore just imagining the cold.
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/t14.2c.gif

But I'm sure the models are much more accurate for 100 years into the future than they are for two weeks out.

Nathan:

That list contradicted itself so many times that it shouldn't be taken seriously.

heatmiser:

Hey Brett,

So you put this one under "Effects of Global Warming" and the Gore Nobel announcement under "Odd News"? When I asked you about your choice for the Gore news, you said you just couldn't figure out where else to put it. Perhaps you should try to reflect a bit more.

Cmon Brett, you are not interested in an objective discussion about climate change...it's pretty obvious.

Reply: Give me a break heatmiser! Lighten up. Your looking too deep into the categories. I personally do not dwell on which category I am going to choose, I scan the list and pick one because I have too. Maybe you should just ignore the category and just read the blog. With this particular blog I chose that category more so on being slightly humerous, you know.....having a little fun. Sometimes talking about this subject can get a little dry, so I try to lighten things up a bit and have some fun. What's the crime?

I dropped my PRO subscription because of stuff like this, in addition to all those annoying ads and the crazy rants (and incredibly wrong forecasts) of Bastardi.

Bushlover:

Hey Patrick Henry,
What do you think about the "freak artic warming" article also under world weather. Those unusually strong storms seem to be helping warm the artic, sounds like an unforeseen feedback from Global Warming. I'm sure everything is going to be fine, look at the West Coast today, everything is great out there if you like to be rescued by a helicopter. I'm sure I'll receive a bunch of brainwashed banter for asking a obvious question that brainwashed americans (and others) don't want to deal with. I really hope you people don't have children or if you do that an intelligent couple adopts them soon. Miracles happen all the time.

Jim Todd:

Arctic bogs melt...Arctic lakes disappear; Atlantic less salty...Atlantic more salty; Bananas destroyed...Bananas grow; Coral reefs dying...coral reefs grow; Forest decline...forest expansion; Hybernation ends too soon...hybernation ends too late; Ice sheet growth...ice sheet shinkage; Plankton blooms...plankton loss. I don't have time to look through the rest.
Give us a break. I am sure there are plenty of folks making a darn good living off the climate change/global warming "industry" but you are making yourselves look ridiculous. Sure, we can and should do better at taking care of our planet for a number of reasons but those who justify their lives and their jobs by pointing out how rotten we as humans are for destroying our planet need to realize that they can't have it both ways. We were told in the two hurricane seasons after Katrina that the Gulf and East coasts would be devastated because of climate change and we had two below average hurricane seasons. This is not to say that it won't happen next year or the year after but now the below average hurricane season we blamed on...you guessed it...climate change. Please don't tell me what my lifestyle is going to do to the global climate when you can't even tell me if it will rain this afternoon.

Reply: it won't rain this afternoon

Oiznop:

Crocodile Sex???? Is that an increase or a lack there of???? Yet more evidence of the continued insanity. What happened to the the sky falling? I don't see that listed there.

Save the planet from hot air. Muzzle the Crocodiles!!!!

Oiznop:

REPLY: Yeah Yeah Yeah, and the country run by the religion of peace and tolerance is developing nuclear energy for electricity. Sure, right. You betcha! I see you are still getting your news from the Clinton News Network, there Mark! Nice to see you are still consistant, giving credibility to the network that rigged the last Republican Youtube Debate with questions from a bunch of leftist operatives. Way to go, old buddy.....;oD....

Patrick Henry:

Bushhater,

Perhaps this survey will help you understand your agitated continence.

Brett, no problem, it's your blog and you make the decisions. But categorizing this entry under "Effects of Global Warming" and assigning the Nobel announcement to "Odd News" makes your blog no different than TMZ.com.

My browser bookmarks have a section for "Weather - Technical" that includes sites like the PSU map wall, and then I have a section called "Weather - Tabloid" that has accuweather.com and similar sites.

cheers

fred:

it seems to me after reading many posts from both sides, the AGW's like petty personal digs and the NGW's actually engage in intellegent conversation.....I know when children are wrong they get upset and start name calling...
