International Conference will question Global Warming Alarmism
2008 International Conference on Climate Change
The first, major international conference to focus on issues and questions not answered by advocates of the theory of man-made global warming will take place in New York City from March 2 - March 4, 2008, according to conference coordinator James Taylor from the Heartland Institute, which is the primary sponser of the event.
The conference will bring together leading scientists, economists and policy experts to explain the "other side" of the climate change debate, according to the conference website.
Approximately 100 scientists, economists, and policy experts will participate as speakers and panelists. Here is a list of confirmed speakers. I am sure you will recognize several of the speakers, some of which have been interviewed by Katie Fehlinger on Headline Earth, while others have personally interacted in the blog's comment section.
Admission is open to the general public, but attendance is limited to 500 people. I wonder if Dr. Hansen will be attending, especially since this conference is being held right in his own back yard.

It will be interesting to see who attends and the eventual topics discussed, and if any Hysterics attend. Reply: I posted the link to the list. Brett.
Will there be 'protesters' outside? The MSM have already wrote the conference off as a 'denier conference' and unworthy of their haughty graces.
Given all the recent information coming out of the various departments who compile data, the conference will have a wealth of data tp pull from putting the hoax to this "Man-Made Global Warming".
The Hysterics would rather stiffle the debate rather than allow the public to see them with their pants down around their ankles.

Oh, forgot to mention. I can't wait to see Mark and BT and the rest our "progressive" friends totally pick each of these people apart, and label them as shills for Exxon, George W. Bush, Fred Singer, and Fox News. Oh, baby, it's coming. I am on pins and needles with anticipation! And as for Hansen attending, I think there is a better chance that this conference will be on the nightly news.

Well, the 2008 ICCC (International Conference on Climate Change) now needs a mandate to clearly reflect its intentions, goals and results.
We have learned from the IPCC, the mandate statement can make or break their credibility. For instance, the IPCC mandate:
"Its role is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the latest scientific, technical and socio-economic literature produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of the risk of human-induced climate change, its observed and projected impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation."
Notice the (my) highlited words.......Looks like it was made up by an administrative assistant somewhere who was afraid of losing their job.
In other words, its role is to be objectively single/narrow/bias minded.
The mandate directs them to NOT provide info that does not support the risk.
I trust that the organizers and contributors of the ICCC learn from this bias and strive for credibility from both sides of the debate.

The IPCC lead scientist said a few months ago that there were "two or three" remaining skeptics in the scientific community.
I'm surprised that he didn't check his facts as rigorously as everything else in the IPCC report.
Or perhaps he did?

Who is covering this from Accuweather?
It would be interesting to hear some reports from the "dark side".
I wonder if the mainstream media will report this as a legitimate news story?
As for Dr. Hansen showing? I would say he is too busy adjusting February temperatures to attend.
Everybody Have a great weekend.

Funny, I didn't read about this in my paper or see it on network TV. I wonder why that is?
If the science of global warming is really settled and AGW has been proven, why doesn't Real Climate send some people over to the conference for a public debate?

Is this the same Heartland Institute that received funding from Phillip Morris and Exxon?
LOL!
This conference is about a big a joke as a Star Trek convention.

It will be interesting to see how this is recieved by the media.
All the best

I'd go, but can't get there because of all of the snow and ice. LOL
OOP wait, that only happens for the AGW conferences. Bet it will be 85 and sunny in New York then. Put that down Brett, my first forecast.
Say, will the Katie crew be covering this earth shattering event? And if so, can you have her keep an eye out for the protesters that will surely be outside chanting slogans such as "go home denier/facist/polluter/Bushie etc". I always get a kick out of the rent-a-mobs that are brought in to promote the party line.

they got Ruski's, Polski's, Checzki's, Englanders', Down Underer's, Frogger's, Canuck's, Americano's and more...there is even soom dude from the International Panel on Climate Conspiracy...quite a GLOBAL representation...let the scamster badmouthing and character assasinations begin...i dont think ole Dr Anonymous from the N.ational A.djusters for S.pecial A.djustments will go unless they have that special U.nited N.incompoop ivory podium for him to pontificate from...if he does, all the better, perhaps he will learn something outside the circle of deceit...brett, you might want to email Mr. Bigcheese At Accuweather so he can listen to what the economists have to say about the cost of a co2 insurance plan he thinks is a good idea...nevertheless, great to see the real science rebuttal is organizing...finally, brett, it would make for a nice backdrop if you could make it snow in the Big Apple one of the days during this C.onvention O.f O.rganized en.L.ightner's...happy days bros...
Reply: Doesn't look like any snow during the conference.

Hi Mark,
Next time you need to get gas for your car, you might want to pull into your local Greenpeace, GISS or IPCC filling station. They can fill up your tank with theory and hot air.
That way you can avoid patronizing an evil oil company. Also, please don't purchase any products which might have been manufactured or transported using evil oil. You should immediately turn off your computer, lights and heat.
If you aren't willing to do those things, then perhaps you can shut the mindless populist rhetoric against the people you depend on for your day-to-day survival.
Also, I'm curious who funds the IPCC, or do the participants all do it out of sheer love for the planet? No doubt Al Gore is giving all of his global warming millions away to philanthropic causes.

Brett,
Any chance of you changing your blog to global cooling? What constitutes a trend?
Reply:Obviously a lot more than what you are thinking.

Maybe next year they can hold this conference at Dinosaur Adventureland.

About time. It's too bad that it will not be televised, I'd be really interested in seeing it. I wonder if the backdrop will be a graph of the economy spiraling down in front of an atomic explosion?
I doubt many AGW-BSer's will even take notice because the name is too mundane and it's not being marketed by some idiot that made D's in Science.
Not to worry though AGW-BSer's, there is an army of idiots coming out of our schools that have already been indoctrinated into your foolishness. It will take long time to repair the damage from our incredibly expensive public school system.
Mark,
I was wondering which of you (BT, Steve Bloom, or yourself) would be the first to point out who has contributed to Heartland. Why is it that seemingly all AGW-BSer's and most liberals care more about the "credibility" of someone or an org rather than their statements? It is because most of you are unable to think objectively. Credibility is subjective as are all the adjectives used by the IPCC to determine the "likelihood" of an event.
You cannot think for yourselves, you mantra is preordained by whomever you're currently worshiping in order to get your handouts; retirement, healthcare($4 trillion per year in 2015), education, internet, low prices, and I'm sure you can name hundreds more like that SOB with book teaching people how to get "Free" Gov't money.
Careful, one day all your "entitlements" will run out and you'll have to fend for yourself. Don't expect much charity from those you consistent badmouth.
Regards,
Steve

"This conference is about a big a joke as a Star Trek convention."
You, sir, owe trekkies an immense apology.

Real Climate has addressed this conference here.
I've looked over the list of presenters and it's pretty much the usual suspects. Unsurprisingly the vast majority of the people presenting on climate science aren't climate scientists. Since science journalists at least are on to this game, I suspect the strategy is to try to make the conference look like a big enough event that general media cover it. We'll see how that works out.
Of note is that any legislators who agreed to attend get a free hotel (and a very nice hotel it is) for the entire weekend plus the conference itself (which runs Sunday evening through mid-day Tuesday). We'll see how many they entice with that. Given the cost of rooms in such hotels (on the order of $300/night), there's some serious money behind this conference.

Eight weeks ago the prophet Dr. Hansen announced that 2008 would be "unremarkable." This was a year after predicting the "Super El Nino." No wonder the press and liberals love this guy - he is just as clueless and disinterested in facts as they are.
Timely blog from Jesse Ferrell
Buried By Snow Part 5: 1,000 Snow Records
NWS record reports abound... NCDC lists over 1,000 records tied or broken for February alone:
11 Stations Broke All-Time Monthly Snow Records (1 Tied)
46 Stations Broke Monthly Snow Records (12 Tied)
>784 Stations Broke Daily Snow Records (150 Tied)
The American Red Cross in Denver is packing up emergency supplies to be delivered to mountain residents in Colorado trapped by heavy snow. Crews in Park County, about 100 miles southwest of Denver, were working Tuesday (2/12) to clear roads that were blocked by up to 25 feet of snow.

Nice Job Oiznop...
It took less than an hour for Mark to prove you right. If only the weather and global climate could be as predictable as our liberal "friends".
I feel your pain over there in Pitts. Same deal here in Columbus. Too cold yet again.

This conference has already had the alleged credentials of it's participants documented; see "What if you held a conference, and no (real) scientists came?" http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2008/01/what-if-you-held-a-conference-and-no-real-scientists-came/ and "Heartland Conference Celebrates Science for Sale" http://www.desmogblog.com/heartland-conference-celebrates-science-for-sale so how about we stop pretending this thing has the remotest shred of legitimacy or integrity, hmmm?

So what if they deem that man induced global warming is a fallacy or too insignificant to make a difference? That the Sun is largely to blame for most of it. I guess it's back to normal -- it's quite alright to pollute than. In fact, since it's not us, let's pollute rampantly and unchecked, right? You gotta ask yourself what the Endgame is here. The bottom line is that clean, renewable energy is what should be happening regardless of man induced GW. This time and resource consuming debate is a waste of time. There is no justification for noxious emissions, period! If you all love Big Oil and Special Interests so much, why don't you just pay them 10% of your income on top of all this BS overpaying at the pumps, etc... I mean this does seem to be your new religion anyway -- YAY special interest, woo hoo! Give me, and yourselves, a break.

HEARS THE BEEF!!!
The Great Pacific climate shift!!!!!
If indeed the PDO shift is the real deal, we might expect more La Nina's and fewer weaker La Nino's over the next few decades, with a net tendency for cooling. Add to that a quieter sun and eventual cooling Atlantic, and you have a recipe for GLOBAL COOLING.

Yeah Mark, they tried to get it sponsored by the Sierra Club, in the interest of fairness , but they declined.

"Is this the same Heartland Institute that received funding from Phillip Morris and Exxon?"
Just a quick question Mark....Why shouldn't they?
Hansen, Schmidt and the others do!
And Brett my forecast is for a 20 percent chance
of seeing this in the MSM and a 90 percent chance
of some sort of disclaimer of legitimacy if we do.
Reply: OK, we will hold you to it!

Mark,
Why the hate for the Star Trek conventions? Having a Klingon edition of the Bible might come in handy someday.

Need I mention that snow and colder-than-normal temperatures don't necessarily go hand in hand?
Most of the northeast has been 1 to 5+ degrees warmer than normal this month, but have simply gotten up to three times the normal precipitation.
