Hypocrisy!
On a much lighter note............
The Daily Mail (yea, I know it's a British tabloid) had a "shocking" post the other day (thanks Laura!) about the climate change hypocrisy of certain famous celebrities. Just looking at their list I would say that Mr. Travolta is the worst offender of the bunch (a boeing 707 and a private runway. Are you kidding me!). Leo and Charles probably could have been left off the list. Sorry folks, Al Gore did not qualify. Here is the link to the story by Tom Sykes.
Congratulations Paul!
Paul Yeager, who is a forecaster and managing editor of AccuWeather.com has on several occasions graciously filled in for me on this blog just just released his first book Literally, the Best Language Book Ever. The book is a compilation and analysis of words, phrases and expressions that we should never use again. Paul has more about his book right here on his AccuWeather.com blog. Here is the link to Paul's book on Amazon.com.
Sorry Paul, I did not mean to lump you with the "high" journalistic quality of the Daily Mail, just bad timing. LOL.

The whole concept is hypocrisy.
If every person in the United States stopped breathing today
We still could not do one thing to lower CO2.
Russia, China, India, and almost 140 countries on this plant were exempt from the IPCC - have to do something list.
Their emissions of CO2 are so high, it makes ours look like nothing.
No matter what we do, it will not make any difference.
The only difference, is that we have enough suckers in this country that they can make money off of us.
They knew what they were doing by leaving those other countries off the list.
Those "have to do nothing" countries were not about to pay anyway.

Sorry, couldn't help myself when I saw this one.
Blizzards Force South African Adventurer to Turn Back
South African snow adventurer Correne Erasmus-Coetzer has been forced to abandon her dream of becoming the first African woman to cross the icy continent of Greenland on foot. The dream came to an end this week when the expedition of nine men and women came up against a ferocious wind and snow storm, and rapidly dwindling food supplies, as they approached the quarter-way mark of their 550km slog from the east to west coast of Greenland, across the Arctic Circle. Erasmus-Coetzer was hoping to create awareness about global warming and raise money for the Durban-based Wilderness Leadership School.
Well, she sure got my attention.

A person could make a good career pointing out the hypocrisy of celebrities and politicians. In fact, I think a lot of people in talk radio are making a living doing that.
Actors, rocks stars, and even Nobel laureates are very susceptible to the trendy fads of the day. But you to have to wonder about the sincerity of these individuals. Would Al Gore really own a condo near the waterfront in San Francisco if he believed the seas are going to rise 20 feet this century? If these people believe the planet is really facing a crisis, why don't they change the way they live? Why don't they follow the proscriptions they are trying to force upon others? Obviously, they intend to live an extremely high standard of living while the rest of us make the sacrifices.
I'm always reminded of Orwell's Animal Farm: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others".

I wouldn't call it hypocrisy, just indifference. Thirty years ago, it was saving the Whales, saving Tibet (a longtime favorite of the Left), or voting for the ERA. The publicists in Hollywood know the cause de jour, and act accordingly. In reality very very few Celeberties give Tibet or AGW a second thought. And don't think for one minute any of them are willing to give up thier Malibu McMansions, high powered Audis, Swiss Chalets, and expensive Gulfstreams. Most of them are not intelligent enough to see the irony of being chauffered in a stretch limo to a Save The Planet Before it Melts fundraiser.

A little off topic but NOAA has put April in North America as the 29th coolest in 114 years, 1 degree F below the 20th century average.

I have no use for these people. I haven't been to a rock concert in 3 years (that is if you can call Jimmy Buffett rock), and before I started dating my girlfriend, I maybe went to 3 movies a year, IF Hollywood was lucky. (since we've been dating I go to more movies than I care to). These people are nothing but a bunch of no talents that have nothing better to do when they aren't "working" than spew their leftist hypocritical pap and puke. I don't care what you think about politics and environmental issues. SHUT UP AND MAKE A FRIGGIN MOVIE OR AN ALBUM!!!!!! OR GET A REAL FRIGGIN JOB!!!!!!
Save the planet from hot air. MUZZLE HOLLYWOOD!!!!!

Poor Al. He who used 42 times the amount of electricity than I did in 2006 didn't even make the list.
If one were to question one of these celebrities about their hypocrisy, they would probably say something like, "I know That I use a lot of fuel, but if I can get other people to lower their carbon footprint, then the total amount of carbon would go down."
The following is a good read. This person brings up a good point.

Some people act if these people are some type of gods and bow to their feet. They are just normal well most are not that, better put they are people who try to voice what they feel is the popular opinion and thats what they show on T.V. Perhaps there are other opinions, but they are kept hidden for fear some will disagree and not watch their movie. Most of these people would have no clue of how to survive without their expensive .......they are the type that are not around for instance, they join protect the animal groups and they drive through the country one time in their life and can't believe a person would shoot and eat an animal and believe it is cruel and that was bambi or yogi bear and done so many movie they can no longer depict fact from fiction and then go on T.V and commercials and talk about their stupid opinions like they are somebody important and like we give a crap what they say. They think the world evolves around them. Another for instance, Richard Branson, Ted Turner, Al Gore, support global warming, well whoop dee doo, who cares, what they belive does not make it so. Then they show the ones that do not support the war and try to let them make other people support what they say on their movie reputation and people actually get brainwashed by them, so to some they are gods, to me, go get a life! There are some good ones though.

Two annoying grammatical abuses which weather forecasters use are -
"Unseasonably cold" in their winter forecasts
and
"Unseasonably hot" in their summer forecasts
Reply: Yea, some tell us not to use that in the office. I admit I am one of the offenders.
Which seasons is it supposed to get cold and hot?
Another phrase that drive me nuts is when the cashier in the checkout line says "that is going to be five dollars today."
and when the waiter in an expensive restaurant asks "what can I get you folks today?"

Don't talk the talk if you're not going to walk the walk.
Enough said.

I just want to know one thing. If CO2 levels have risen over the past 10 years, why was 1998 the hottest year in the past 50 years? Reply: El Nino was the culprit according to some such as James Hansen.
Oh, and by the way, ice levels for Antartica were at record levels for April.

Reminds me of the Communist Party elite in the old USSR. The empire lived in poverty, but the Party elite lived in luxury and had their nice dachas for the weekends out in the countryside. All in the name of their service to the State, of course.
You must reduce your emissions of CO2, comrade.

I saw Al Gore mentioned on this thread. Not sure if you saw this one?
Al Gore Calls Myanmar Cyclone a 'Consequence' of Global Warming
Reply: Read his actual words. He is alluding to an IPCC statement which has the word "might " in it. Keep that in mind.
"Using tragedy to advance an agenda has been a strategy for many global warming activists, and it was just a matter of time before someone found a way to tie the recent Myanmar cyclone to global warming."
http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008/20080506160205.aspx
Why doesn't this traitor stop beating around the bush? Just come out and blame America Al. You know you want to and so does your anti-American cult. Lord knows there have never been cyclones before.
This may be a reason:
Government Responsible for Deaths in Myanmar Cyclone
"In the aftermath of the devastating cyclone Nargis which wreaked havoc in Myanmar, there are many questions about why the authorities there were so unprepared and careless about their own people."

I only have one question. Without a single human on earth, how did the earth warm up from the ice age? Anyone who believes in this global warming fallacy needs to answer that question.
Stop drinking the liberal cool-aid and take a good look at reality.

Glen
Although I don't buy into the global warming theory I'm pretty sure humans were here before and during the ice age.
Posted by SteveP | May 12, 2008 5:57 AM
Glen:
The AGW story line on that is as follows:
For many milllions of years, Golbal warming and cooling were completely natural.
However in the 1950s that all changed.
From then on it is Man made.
Now if you buy that, I would like to talk to you about some realestate in Florida.
Posted by Gary | May 12, 2008 2:27 PM
Glen,
I've been asking that question for a long time on here and have yet to recieve an answer, probably because they can't think of an answer or except this might be a hoax.
Posted by Josh Brenneman | May 12, 2008 5:40 PM
jep,
I am not a fan of Al Gore, but I can see two reasons to buy that property, if he believes what he says:
1. Enjoy it while it lasts - because in 20 years he won't have the opportunity.
2. When the inevitable man-made tidal wave/earthquake/tornado/tsunami/terrorist attack/bear attack/martian attack hits San Francisco, he can get on a special "Shame on You" NBC news report, stand in the wreckage of his once fine home and show us how wrong we were to believe that global warming didn't exist.
Stay cool
